Ajanta Caves
 
World famous ajanta caves lying deep within the sahyadri hills of maharastra and cut in to the curved mountain side above the waghare river,werw discovered only in 19 th century.

Ajanta is world`s gretest historical monument recognized by UNESCO.There are 30 caves in ajanta of which 9,10,19,26,and 29 are chaitya-grihas and others are monestries.

All the paintings of ajanta caves shows heavy religious influence and center around Buddha, Bodhisattvas,incidents from the life of Buddha and jatakas.The paintings are executed on a ground of mud-plaster in the tempera technique.

The caves of Ajanta can be classified in to two distinct phases,the earlier Hinayana phase 1, in which Budha was worshipped only in the form of certain symbols,and the later Mahayana phase 2, in which the budha was worshipped in his physical form.

How to reach

Ajanta caves are 108 km from Aurangabad city of maharastra state India, which is well connected from all over India by road, train and air.
